[By Gipsy Giiano.] Rip Van Winkle was badly hurt at at Horowhenua a couple of days ago by jumping into a wire fence. Lord Brassey, an animal who is always running last on Melbourne side, is related to Galtee More, his clam, Paigle, being by Springfield, sire of Morganette, dam of Galtee More. Morganette originally cost SOgns. Doge, winner of the Grand Prix, Js one of a stable of 70. Colonel Forester, a well-known sportsman at Home, died a few weeks ago. The Australian mare Acamena ran last in the Peel Handicap at the Newmarket (England) Spring meeting. Royal Rose has been turned out for a spell at Sydney. Black Jack, entered for the W.R.C. classic races, is by Westmere —Echo, and belongs to Mr J. Paul. Defier, Intrepid, Dasher, Warspite, Victory, and Jabber are the Karamu lot nominated for the N.Z.
