[By Gipsy Grand.] Wallace, Havoc, and Kobold have been scratched for the Melbourne Cup and Hopscotch, Strathspey, and Kobold for the Caulfield Cup. Another batch of 30 bookmakers at Sydney yesterday in voluntarily contributed £795 to the revenue for cash betting. The Auckland 'chaser Ditto has been sent across to Sydney. Strathbraan has been supported by his owner for the Cup at 300 to 7. Acone is again in work at Ellerslie. Day Star and Woodstock are also at regular exercise. The ex-Maorilander Hero ran second to Moonraker's sister, Nora Creina, in the Jubilee Hurdle Race at Sandown Park, Victoria. The following are my selections for the opening day of the Wellington meeting : Stewards'—Mauser or Kalmea. Maiden Steeple—Coastguard. Hunters' Hurdles —Violence. Hurdle Handicap—Rangipai. Parliamentary Handicap—Bonnie Blue or Mauser. Hack —Swordfish or Guardsman. The Wellington Racing Club has received satisfactory entries for the classic events which the stewards have decided to institute in connection with the club's gatherings at the Hutt. For the Wellesley Stakes, for two-year-olds, to be run at next year's Summer Meeting, 35 youngsters have been entered, but the nominations for the same event in 1899 show a large increase, the total number being 68. The Wellington Stakes, for two and three-year-olds, to he decided at the same gathering in 1899, has been largely patronised by owners, the entries numbering 82 while the New Zealand St. Leger Stakes, for three-year-olds, to take place at the Autumn Meeting of 1899, has attracted 37 entries. All the principal breeders in the colony are represented in the events, Messrs Thomas Morrin, L. D. Nathan, G. G. Stead, J. F. Reid, Hon. J. D. Ormond, and Captain Russell being the largest contributors. GISBORNE PARK MEETING. [By Telegraph.] (Per Press Association.) Gisborne, This day. The Gisborne Park Steeplechase Club's annual meeting commenced to-day. The weather was fine and the attendance large. The following are the results :
