GENERAL ITEMS. (Per Press Assoc iat ion-—Coptjriyht.) Sydney, This day. The Hauroto from Wellington with the New Zealand football team arrived this morning after a good passage. The men are all in splendid buckle. A firm of solicitors have been instructed by Mr E. T. Hooley, the millionaire who proposes to purchase the existing Australian meat freezing companies, to collect information and obtain opinions as soon as possible. Melbourne, This Day. The Assembly negatived a motion in favor of a duty of 2s 6d per ton on imported coal. Adelaide, This Day. The Council adopted the Address-in-Reply. The Federation Bill has been introduced. Brisbane, This day. In the Assembly the Acting-Premier stated that prohibition against the •Japanese to Queensland had been arranged. It is expected that a treaty will be arranged with the -Japanese Government under which neither laborers nor citizens will be allowed to come to the colony.
