Attempted Murder and Suicide.
THE ACT OF A MADMAN. >- [By Telegraph.] (P<?#- P> 'ess Association.) Wellington, June 26. A man named James Ridge, living at Mr Field's at Waikanae, cut his throat with a razor to-day and is now dead. Previous to taking his life he attempted to cut the of a girl named Hannah White, adopted child of Mr Field. She was badly cut about the mouth, and has been taken to Olaki to get medical assistance. This Day. Further particulars of Ridge's suicide show that he was seen walking in the orchard in an agitated manner and he said he did not know what was the matter with him. A few minutes after the girl White went into the yard and the man rushed at her with a razor and gashed her lip and cheek badly. >Sho ran away screaming, and presently Ridge went into the kitchen with his throat cut and fell down. Ho then got up and went to his room, where he wounded himself again and fell dead. The girl had a narrow escape as one of the main arteries was just missed. Eidge was of a morose character and particularly disagreeable at times, especially when under the influence of liquor. Miss White is about 1G years of ago, and it is supposed that the man was jealous of her. V
