[By Telegraph.] (Per Press Association.) Wellington, This day. A young woman named Elienor Preston, "while riding a bicycle to Evaus' Bay, fell over the edge of the road on to the rocks below and sustained very serious injuries, including conipound fracture of the pelvic bone. Hokitiki, This day. W. Harper, an old resident of Kanieri, was found dead in bed this morning. Smoke was observed coming from the house where deceased lived by himself, the neighbors went in and found Harper apparently suffocated. It appears he must have been reading and fallen asleep, leaving the candle burning down till the box took fire and the smoke suffocated the unfortunate man. The flames were ascending the -wall when the neighbors entered. Deceased was about 60 years of age and highly respected.
