The Post has reason to believe that the Cabinet has decided to recommend the release of Louis Chemis, who was sentenced to penal servitude for life for the murder of Thomas Hawkins at Kaiwarra in IKS 9, with other prisoners in recognition of the record reign. Auckland, This day.

The Jubilee celebrations in Dunedin have practically commenced by the Kaitangata Coal Company distributing two tons of coal to poor persons, for which 201 applications were recommended. On Saturday there will be a distribution 011 a large scale of clothing, food, Ac., to the poor. Tuesday, the 22nd, will be marked by the singing of '• Rule Britannia" by school children in the morning, a great procession in the afternoon to Jubilee Park, where a grove of oaks, to be called the " Victoria Grove," will bo planted, and the city will be brilliantly illuminated at night. As a permanent memorial of the Jubilee it is intended to erect a children's ward at the hospital, to be called the " Victoria Children's Ward." Chi!lstciiui:ch, This day. A meeting was held yesterday for the purpose'of forming and planting Victoria Park in Cashiner Hill. The Domain Board has in accordance with the suggestion made by Mr Rolleston, M.H.R., decided to carry out the work and announced £ll2 as already subscribed. The Lyttelton demonstration committee in connection with the Jubilee festivites disbanded last night, as it was of opinion chat the council had not met the committee in a proper spirit. The council offered a£. for t. subsidy up to A'2o subscribed by the people. The committee did not think this sufficient.
