Hawke's Bay A. & P. Society.

ANNUAL MEETING

The annual meeting of the Hawke's Bay Agricultural and Pastoral Society was held at their rooms, Tennyson street, Napier, this morning. There was a good attendance, and Mr Anderson occupied the chair.

The balance sheet was read and adopted. Receipts amounted to £1022 0s 7d. and on May 31st last there was a credit balance of £7l 6s 6d.

The following motion was declared lost: —" That the incoming committee be recommended to give preference only to hoggets in the Lincoln sheep classes, and that preference be restored in the programme for farmers' sheep ; also, that pens of special hoggets be reinstated, and that an inspector be appointed to examine Lincoln' sheep before they are judged, and in case of disqualification of any sheep so examined he shall be allowed to shear and retain three of the fleeces in case of an action for damages being blocked for such disqualification." The following amendments were carried :

1. That this meeting regrets the omission of pens of 20 hoggets from the programme and expresses a hope that this feature will be reinstated in future programmes, as well as pens of 10.

2. That this meeting is also of opinion that the farmers' classes should be reinstated on the programme. 3. That this meeting considers the housing and clothing of sheep should not be encouraged in future. The following officers were elected : President, Mr J. H. Coleman. Vice-President, Mr T. Crosse. Treasurer, Mr N. Kettle. Officers : Messrs S. J. Williams, and C. B. Hoadley. Committee : Messrs J. Anderson, A. Boyle, C. Brown, H. Campbell, J. B. Chambers, G. Dolbel, C. A. Fitzßoy, F. L. Gordon, W. Hislop, G. Hunter, T. H. Lowry, T. A. McHardy, Arch. McLean, R. D. D. McLean, the Hon. J. D. Ormond, Donald H. Potts, W. Shrimpton, Captain Russell, W. H, Smith, J. Stothart, F. S. Waterhouse, R. Well wood, J. H. Williams, and J. N. Williams. This concluded the business.
