Napier Items.
[By Telegraph.] (Per Press Association.) Napier, This Day. A small store at Port Ahuriri, occupied by James Butt, was totally destroyed by fire this morning. The inmates were rescued with great difficulty through the windows by the neighbors. The following arc the insurances on Butt's fire :—Stock and furniture £l2O in the Standard, building (W. Seymour) £IOO in the Alliance. The Licensing Committee granted all the renewals and transfers for 11 o'clock licenses. John M'Connachie Brown, a letter carrier in the Napier Post Office, was brought before the S.M. Court this morning charged with stealing two letters, each containing cheques to the value of £4. Many complaints had beeu made as to letters going astray, and investigations by the police resulted in the arrest of the accused. Brown was remanded.
