An Assault Case.
(By Telegkaph.) (Per Press Association.) Dunedin, This day. At the Police Court to-day Nicholas Edwards was charged with a serious assault on a man named M'Kinley. For the prosecution it was alleged thatasM'Kinley was leaving Edwards's house by the back door he was set upon, knocked down, and then struck with a bottle, receiving injuries on the hocid and having a leg broken. For the defence it was pleaded that Mrs Edwards had a slight failing for drink. M'Kinley, though a prohibited person, had gone to the. house and incited her to drink. The husband, taking a run home to see that the children were all right, found M'Kinley on the.sofa in his house, and did what any man would do—threw him out. The three J's,P. were divided, but as two favored dismissal the case was accordingly dismissed.
