At the wool sales bidding was spirited with a general upward tendency. Lord Hampden, Governor of New South Wales, has been gazetted a Knight of Grace of the Order of the Hospital of St. John of Jerusalem and England. There have been a few dealings in the New Westralian loan at from a quarter to half premium. New York, May 12. Mr Spilding, of San Francisco, who was instrumental in arranging a contract to lay a cable from 'l' risco to Honolulu, was unable to obtain the assistance of the United States Government and has now withdrawn from the contract. Hong Kong, May 12. The bubonic plague has made its appearance on the frontier of Tonking and China.
