[From our own Correspondent.] Napier, This Day. THE RELIEF SPORTS. - Under the able management the sports held yesterday on the Recreation Ground could not have been a failure. Although the weather was not too bright, the attendance was very large. A procession on a large scale brought the crowd to the ground in hundreds, and at one time there must have been over 2000 present. The events were got off with marked punctuality and there was a deal of enthusiasm shown at all times by the spectators. For the best decorated bicycle there were a number of entries, the judges awarding the first prize to Mrs Carlile, with Miss Nairn and Mrs Balfour next. In the children's go-cart exhibits Mrs W. C. Yates was first, and Mrs J. R. Miller second. The Maypole dance by a number of children in pretty costumes was a feature of the afternoon. The Navals won the Volunteer competition. The following are the results of the principal events: — 100 yds Flat Handicap : C. E. Johnson, 1; WNicholson, 2; C. St. Hill, 3. One Mile Bicycle Handicap: F. Sutherland, 1 ; T. F. Watson, 2 ; T. Taylor, 8. Schools Teams Rac<f. 440 yds : Napier District School, 1 ; Taradale District School, 2 ; Napier District School, (No. 2 team), 8. Three Mile Bicycle Race: A. J. Pocock. 1; T. F. Watson, 2 ; W. R. Jourdain, 3. Fire Brigade Competition : Hastings No. 1 team and Spit No. 1 team tied for first place ; Hastings No. 2 team, 3. In the run off for the dead heat Hastings won. 150 yds Club Championship: C. St. /•"Hill, 1; C. E. Johnson, 2. Volunteer Competition : Navals, 1 ; F. Battery, 2. Half mile Handicap: C. Price, 1 ; J. Hamilton, 2 ; R. Dudley, 8. Costume Race: Fahey. 1. Physical Drill Competition : Napier District School, 1. 440 yds Handicap: C. St. Hill. 1 • W. Strickland, 2. Five mile Bicycle Handicap : A. J. Pocock, 1; T. F. Watson, 2 ; W. R. Jourdain, 3. 250 yds Handicap: C. St. Hill, 1 L. Brathwaite. 2; J. Lindsay, 8. Two miles Handicap : H. Marshall, 1; J. Hamilton, 2 : C. Price, 8.
