THE DEBATING SOCIETY.

[To The Editor.] S lß —"Licensed Hall" has made out a good case against the Debating Society getting free quarters from the ratepayers, but he might have gone further and asked why the taxpayer should be called upon to provide gas and firing for the institution. lam told the society depended on getting everything for nothing, which accounts for their asking only 2s 6d subscription from members for a six-months' session. Surely if the educational part of the show is a success the members should not object to double or treble that amount and pay for a room away from the Council Chambers—l am, &c., Independence. ~
