Greece Desirous of Mediation.
A PROMISE TO WITHDRAW FROM CRETE. TURKEY'S DEMANDS. A BIG BILL FOR GREECE. London, May 11. Replying to a question, Lord Salisbury stated that Greece had not appealed to the Powers for mediation, though several members of the Greek Government desired that the Government should do so. He further stated that the Greek Government had given promises to the Powers that they would soon withdraw the troops from Crete. Pakis, May 11. A telegram received here indicates that Greece has agreed to recognise the autonomy of Crete. Constantinople, May 11. The military party is pressing the Sultan to exact from Greece as conditions of peace an indemnity of three millions, Turkey to retain Thessaly until the sum is paid, the cession of ironclads in the Greek navy, receiving the frontier of Thessaly and Epirus, the cession of Actium at the entrance of the Gulf of Arta, and the abolition of Greek capitulation.
