The funeral of the late Sir William Robinson, ex-Governor of Western Australia at Woking, was attended by a large number of leading colonials. Sir John Forrest, Premier of Western Australia, sent a wreath on behalf of that colony. May 6. The provisions of the Employers Liability Bill have spread dismay among the trades unions throughout Britain. The Miners Eight Hours Bill was introduced in the House of Commons by Mr Allen, member for Newcastle-under-Lyme. It was rejected by a majority of 41. Wray, the Australian sculler, has challenged Gaudaur for the championship of the world. Cape Town, May 6. The Cape Government admits''tfa'at Dr Koch's cure for the rinderpestTias failed. Washington, May 6. In the new tariff third class wools over 10 cents per lb will pay 7 per cent, and under 10 cents 4 per cent. The tariff comes into operation on July Ist. The Senate, by 43 to 96, rejected the Foreign Relations Committee's amendments in the Arbitration Treaty. The majority, however, does not reach the two thirds required to secure an absolute rejection of the amendments. The National Postal Congress has opened here. The delegates present represent sixty countries. Madrid, May 6. Of twenty-six anarchists sentenced to death for complicity in the bomb outrages at Barcelona in 1895, five have teen shot and the remainder reprieved.
