DEATH OF DIIKADXOUGIIT
Sports will regret so hear of the death of the thoroughbred horse Dreadnought by Chester from Trafalgar which took place at Karamu yesterday. It appears that the horse was running out in one of the paddocks, apparently quite well, when he was found <l>ad b\ one of Ml' Ormond s employees. The cause of death is supposed to be* heart disease. Iheadnouglit as a racehorse was one of the finest of his day. Perhaps his greatest pei formauee was Lis victory in the Australian Cup of IK9O whin a three-year old. 11l that race he carried H"fj and put up an Australian record by covering the distance in with Tom Hales in the s iddle. In Carbine's memorable Cup year the son cf Chester wen the Victoria Derby under the blue and white jacket of the late Mr J.White. Tnu following Autumn lie and Melos divided second honors in Carbine's Champion -tak> As a 2-yr-old Dreadnought swept the board and wa.-. the early fancy for the Melbourne Cup of IHHO. but was not nominated for the event. Only two riders—Hales and Huxley—were associated with Dreadnought in his racing days.
