Messrs G. H. Vickevs and Co. will hold their usual weekly sale to-morrow, when an exceptionally heavy catalogue will be presented. The Rev James M'Coll will conduct a Gaelic service in the Hastings Presbyterian Church oil Sunday afternoon at three o'clock, and he will take the usual evening service in English.

Mr James P. Thomson announces having received from London, ex Tongariro, a job lot of ladies' drapery, which he offers at nearly half price. The gentlemen's department has also been stocked with goods suitable for the present season. Rev J. Hosking left by the 11.30 train this morning for Napier, whither he embarks for Auckland. A horse and trap, the property of Dr Faulknor of Hastings, in charge of James McCrausland, bolted in the Havelock Road this afternoon. The final bowling match for the gold medals presented by Messrs Newbigin and Maddison was played on the green yesterday afternoon, when there were a large number of spectators. Cowlrick announces that he has taken over the business lately carried on by Mr R. Winsley at the Hastings Cafe. Under Mr AYinsley's management this restaurant became one of the most popular houses in the district, and it is Mr Cowlrick's aim to keep the Cafe up to the level it has attained.

In the case of A. A. George v. Ryan and others, involving a claim of JCIO 2s against the Hastings Operative Society, his Worship ruled that plaintiff could not sue Messrs Ryan, Ridgway, Boyd and Stubbs (committee of the Operatic Society), consequently a nonsuit was entered against Mr George without costs.

The Times states that a large number of applications have been received by the Sheriff from persons anxious to witness Bosher's execution. The landlord of the Racecourse Hotel' Dunedin, was charged with allowing raffling in his hotel. A fine of £3 and costs was inflicted.

The chairman of the Auckland Hospital and Charitable Aid Board appeals to the Mayor to start a public subscription for a children's hospital to commemorate the Queen's record reign. The estimated cost is £2OOO.

At the Christehurch Police Court yesterday Edwin Geach, agent for Carl Hertz was charged with overcrowding the Theatre Royal on Tuesday night. A nominal penalty of 5s and costs was inflicted, on the understanding that the offence would not be repeated. The Concilliation Court met again at Wellington to consider the tailors dispute. Both sides agreed to accept the recommendation that members of the Union shall be employed in preference to non-union men, provided they are equally well qualified, and are willing to accept work. The Wellington City Council has agreed to give Mr Cohen, of Napier, the lease of ground at the Karori water-works for 21 years at £1 per acre for gold-mining purposes on condition that Is per ounce royalty is paid and £SOO expended in actual testing in 12 months. —The Council also decided to do its own cartage in preference to accepting tenders. The Council of the Christehurch National Association passed a resolution that the Council expresses its strong disapprobation of the increased telephone tariff as being unwarranted and a breach of faith" with the large number of subscribers who had joined the exchange under the belief that the previous rates would be continued.
