Omahu Notes.
[From A Correspondent.] April 5. The oat races at Gmahu were held last Wednesday and were largely attended. A dance took place in the large hall in the evening, and was kept up with great vigor till the small hours of the morning. I believe it is the intention of the Natives to hold a steeplechase meeting iu June. The following are the results of the races: Bulldog carried off the Trial Hurdles, .Shamrock the Maiden, Mr G. l\ Donnelly's Turemoi the Omaha Oat Cup, Ivangihau the Ngapuki Stakes, Morning the Hurdles, Erena the I'atu Witu Handicap, and Nukurau the Flying. Mr S. Brewer was very unfortunate in losing his mare Maudina, who disliHMtfd her hip in the Hying Handicap. Mil- was winning easily at the time of the art lilt lit, and was a very promising mait.. but owing to the injuries reit n ■ d h.id £o he destroyed.
