THE MURDERER BUTLER.
(Per Pris.s —Cojiyriyht.)
San Fbaxcisco, March 28,
Butler leaves on Thursday, April 1. The detectives are watching Butler with increasing vigilance, being afraid he may attempt suicide. Sydney, This day.
From the result of the extended enquiries made by the 'Frisco Police from Butler's former shipmates it is gathered that the alleged murderer as Richard Ashe joined H.M.S. Sultan at Portsmouth in 1880 and was present at the bombardment of Alexandria. He afterwards served on the coast of Chili, then joined the mounted police in Canada, and subsequently joined the United States Cavalry, deserting from each after serving a few months. Although he went under several names it is believed his true name is Ashe.
