SPORTING NEWS.

[By Gipsy Guam*.] St Conon, by his win nt the Park yesterday, lias shown that ho can gallop and that he may be counted amongst the best two-year-olds of the season. I do not wish to place him in the same street as Gold Medalist, Multiform, or Sir Launcelot at present, and it must be agreed that the son of St Loger and Sapphire is not nearly as forward as the three mentioned, but by Derby time, if all goes well, I expect to see Gooseman's charge in the van. That honest little mare Tally-ho again captured the Hurdle Race, carrying top weight. It -was bad luck for Rhino that lie jumped badly at the last fence or he must have won. "Tiny" Carmichael scored his first win 011 Straybird. He is a plucky little horseman for his inches and generally gets home first in the track trials. The Waverley Handicap produced the greatest finish of the meeting. Percy White, on The Miser, jumped off first and kept the Puriri gelding hard at it all the way. Barshot's disadvantage at the starting post evidently lost him the race by half-a-head. The winning sires at the Park were : Torpedo, with three wins; Forerunner, Somnus, two Wins each ; St Leger, King Cole, Sou'wester, Flintlock, Nordenfeldt, Wanderer, Puriri, one each. The following are the winning amounts at the Parklt. Connop, j£Bss; Mrs Moellar, £'27o, I). McKhmon, J. Prosser, .T. Maher, \Y. Douglas, £9O; A. Banks, £'Bo ;T. H. Lowry, £'7.3 ; G. Kiehardson, T. Quinlivan, £SO. Several smaller amounts bring the total to £l. Following are the winning jockeys : C. Mitchell, Banks, Derrett, Watt, two wins each ; O'Xeil, Whittaker, P. White, Carmichael, Gall, and Fairbrotlier, one each. The late starting of St' Anthony at the Park yesterday gave rise to considerable comment. It is alleged that the owner of St Anthony accepted the horse in writing, but the horse's name did not appear in the official card, on the starting board, or the machine and the race was delayed for half-an-hour through the'blunder of someone. The questions that arise now are : Who is responsible for the mistake ? Was the owner or rider lined for arriving late at the post? What Mould have been the result if St Anthony won? In all fairness to the public those are questions that require answering.
