LOTION WINS THE STAKES.

The weather looked none too promising for the second day's meeting, but the attendance was again good, Hastings sending a large contingent. Great dissatisfaction was expressed at the start for the Trial Hurdles being delayed for half an hour for St Anthony—whose name does not appear in the book—who arrived 011 the course twenty minutes after the starting time. The following are the results : Ski/okd Trial Hvrdlk Hack, of 50 sovs; horse to receive 10 sovs from the stake. 11 mile. Rainbow, lOst 71b 1 Flirt, lOst 31b 2 Gorse, 9st 121b 3
Erena, St Anthony, and Toriki afso started. Mr Piper sent the field off to a good start. Passing the stand Flirt and St Anthony were leading with Toriki last. At the hill bend Rainbow rail up to the leaders and won easily by two lengths, Gorse a faird third and Toriki last. Time, 2mm 54 4-ssecs.
High Weight Handicap, of 50 sovs; second horse to receive 10 sovs from the stake. Once round. Primula, Bst 101b 1 New Forest, lOst 41b ... 2 Maid Marion, Wst 31b ... 3
Lotion fand lutinbow were "scratched. Drary Lane at once went to the front and made the running till entering the straight, when Primula took command and won easily by two lengths from New Forest, who came very fast at the tinish. Time, Imm 59sec. l)iv., <£"2.

Primula was scratched. The field wero let go to n beautiful start, Passing the stand Petroline was lending, with Stmthbraan, The Miser, and Lorelei her nearest attendants and ITima lust, doing down she back Iluna. who had improved her position, went to the front and raced with Petroline. At the hill the pair wero joined by Lotion, tin- trio entering the straight in front of Strathbraan, and a great race tip the straight resulted between Lotion and Iluna, The latter tried to come up on the inside, but was blocked, Lotion winning by half a length, Day Star a good third I'»iv.. i? 10 lHs.
