The eighteenth annual connfcrence of the united Fire Brigade Association of New Zealand opened this morning at the Town Ilall, Port Chamers. The executives consisted of 0. Bellringer, New Plymouth, President ; A. Martin, (lore, 1). Leach, Port Chalmers, and Kobbins, llawera, Vice-presidents ; -I. (iilberd, Napier, Secretary ; and about 50 other delegates were present. The Mayor and Councillors attended and welcomed the delegates. The executive's report showed that Coromandel, Dannevirke, Kuripuni, and Lawrence brigades had joined the Association during the year, making the number on the roll 71. The accumulated fund of the Accident Society lias now reached I" notwithstanding had been paid as compensation for accidents sustained by tirenien on duty. The balance-showed a credit of t'22l odd, and an excess of assets over liabilities of i'ISTO odd. The report was adopted. It was resolved, on the motion of Mr Hobbins, that, with the view of getting the other brigades to join the Association Accident Society, a committee be appointed to formulate a scheme and confer with the executive of the Accident Society as to the same. The I'almersum North notice of motion with reference to Government assistance was withdrawn in favor (if an amendment by Hobbin " That a committee Lie appointed fur the purpose of estimating the sum n<(isired fr.itu the Government towards defraying loss in connection with the annual meetings of the Association ; the committee to meet at Wellington while the 1 Itiu"i' is in session and endeavor to get such sum passed as a permanent vote."
