INCREASE OF CONSUMPTION.

CABLES.

LEGISLATION WANTED. 'P< r iVf.s.s Association.—('ojii/ri'ilit. i Sydney, March 18. A deputation from hospital directors to-day called the attention of the Colonial Secretary to the growing prevalence of consumption. It was stated that over a thousand deaths were annually reported in New South Wales from this disease, but this, however, was far short of the real death rate, and' Victoria, Queensland, and South Australia had even higher rates. The deputation urged the necessity for special treatment separate from public hospitals, and suggested a Commission of Inquiry. The Hon. -J. Brunker favored a commission being set up, and promised to consult his colleagues with a view to immediate action.
