BUTCHERY IN NEW GUINEA.
CABLES.
WHOLESALE SLAUGHTER BY NATIVES. (Pi*/ - Prests Association. —Ciqiyriijht.) C'ooktowx, Feb. 25. Terrible news is just to band from New Guinea. A party of savages attacked a number of miners on the Mom bare gold fields on January 14th. Mr Green, the Government agent, six miners, five of the native police, and twenty-eight native carriers were butchered. No further details are to hand at present. This day. Later "particulars of the massacre at New Guinea show that Mr Green, having decided to shift the Police camp to higher country, was engaged in the erection of the building, aided by three native police, the others being employed clearing the surrounding country. Mr Green went on top of the structure, leaving his arms on the ground, when it is supposed one of the native police on the building treacherously signalled the others to attack him. Being defenceless, Mr Green fell an easy victim, the body being terribly mutilated.
