Uuchaniin's election from the tile was continued he-fore the Chief -Justice and Judge Coiioiiy. Adam Armstrong, the n turning ollicer for tin- Wairarapa, was examined in respeet to an advertisement which was published on lieceinher I'2. In an allidavit he said he had mistaken the l:Uh for the 11th. lie now explained this wrong, and said he never really signed the advertisement or gave*it to Mr lirown, the journali-.t, at all, hut the latter took tin- form ol the ads erti •• ne nt av. .i, oil the 11th in order to set it in tvpe, and next day it was to he eorieeti-d. On the following day the ligures Were akectxl hy taking one off Mr Buchanan on account of ;t double vote. lie then pretceeded to urge that the real declaration was on the '.J'h day, when he (Armstrong) returned the writ to tinClerk f the I'olland no other declaration could th<-n U- made. Hence the jM'tition was too late.
