Owing to the notoriously unhealthy climate on the Niger Coast it has been decided to despatch the hospital ship Malacca to Benin on Saturday for the use of members of the dill'ereut expeditionary forces about to operate there. The Malacca will be manned by 120 marines, eight surgeons, and 25 medical attendants. The total quantity of wool arrived up to date is 388,050 bales, of which 95,000 have been forwarded to the manufacturing districts direct, and with the amount held from last sales, 203,000 bales are available for the forthcoming series. Jan. 19. H.M.S. Torch, which has been commissioned to replace the Ringdove on the Australian station, has sailed. Calcutta, Jan. 18. The troopship Warren Hastings, bound from Capetown to Mauritius aud Bombay, wrecked on the Island of Reunion, had 1200 passengers and crew on board. Capetown, .Jan. 18. The residents of Yryburg, the capital of Bechuanaland, have petitioned the Cape Government to disarm the Bechuanas immediate!v.
