CARDINAL MORAN BACK'S DOWN. (P-r Press Asmiciatiuii. C'-jti/rit/ht.) Melbourne, -Tan. 19. The nominations of Federal candidates will require to be lodged by February 11th. The election takes place on the 4th March, and the Convention meets on the 20th March. The place of meeting will be fixed by the Premiers' Conference at Hobart. It is understood that Sydney will be chosen as the place. Syhney, -Jan. 19. Cardinal Moran. whom the public were led to believe would be a candidate for the Federal Convention, returned an evasive answer to an iuterviewer. The idea that the Cardinal would stand had occasioned controversy, which culminated in the Primate's emphatic "No" when asked whether he would become a condidate. Cardinal Moran now states that he had not thought seriously about it. and had merely said that there was nothing to prevent him being nominated.
