An Eventful Voyage.
(By Telegraph.) (Per Press Association.) Wellington, Jan. 16. The passage of the barque Kirkdale, from Liverpool, was an eventful one. She experienced heavy gales in the Channel. A portion of the cargo, which included 296 pipes for the Nelson gasworks and a quantity of crockeryware, shifted, and it was a work of great difficulty to secure and restow it. It was also found necessary to reef new lanyards, as the violent rolling of the vessel had almost destroyed the old gear. On the 9th December an iceberg three miles in lengths, and upwards of 600 feet high, was sighted. Captain Jones was first under the impression that it was a big island, and the supposition was only dispelled when the ship came close to the berg. For nearly 1400 miles icebergs were passed in rapid succession, the vessel on one occasion being hemmed in for four days.
