A BIG CONTRACT. (('•>' I'lV.f.l A**'"'ioti'rit . 1 Svt-nky, Dec. 30. Tenders for the colossal work of manufacturing 100,000 tons of steel rails closed to-day. Only one local tender was received, but ammiber may be received by the Agent-General. Cnder the term- of the contract the rails have to be made in the colony, and will involve an immediate expenditure of A*loo.ooo on machinery, and provide constant employment for at least ."<OO men. The expenditure during the continuance of the contract will be over £.100,000 in alone.
