"Welter. —Haeata or Golden Plover. Christmas Handicap.—Moonraker or Daredevil. RACING ITEMS. Epaulet and Woodstock have been scratched for the Auckland Derby. Mr E. "W. G. Bathbone secured the brood mare Vendetta (St. Albans-Tho Maid) with foal at foot by Nelson at Major George's thoroughbred horse sale for 25 guineas. In the hurdle race at Ashurst on Tuesday G. Walls, the rider of En Evant, and A. Hall, the rider of Daphne, met with accidents. The former, besides spraining his ankle, was badly shaken, and the latter broke his collar-bone. A wire, from Auckland to-day says : As predicted, there will be a record attendance at Ellerslie to-morrow for the second day's races. The Derby is regarded as a very open race, Nestor, St. Paul, and Dauntless each having their admirers. The town is crowded with visitors from the mining and other local centres. During the Clermont (Queensland) races yesterday four horses fell. Hannon, the rider of one, sustained dreadful injuries, and was killed almost instautlv. Three others named Quinlan, Jennings, and Swient were also injured, the lirst named being in a critical condition. Advices by last mail show that the Australian racehorses Maluma. fouiiamu, Culloden, Erl King. Ebor, Norton, and Dalmio are pursuing their studies on the English tracks, and that Culloden and Pounamu have been tried over hurdles. Mr S. H. Gollan's Norton took part in the Grand Sefton Steeplechase. 3 miles, at the Liverpool Autumn Meeting, and with lOst 61b up. finished third to Uory O'More and Alpheus. Ilickey kept Norton in a good position all the way. but the son of Ascot was unable to pace it with Uory O'More and Alpheus at the end of the journey. ,
