FEDERAL DEFENCE.

(Per Pran Association.—Cojiyrii/ht.) Sydney, This day. The Minister of Defence has received a report of the conference of Military Commanders recently held at Melbourne. It contains recommendations in regard to the Federal defence of King George's Hound, Thursday Island, Port Darwin, and Roebuck Bay, and the Federal drilling of troops. It is strongly in favor of the establishment of a cordite factory in the colonies, and suggests the necessity of protecting the cables against hostile powers.
