[By Gipsy Gkand.] Epaulet was scratched for the Auckland Cup at 10 o'clock this morning. The well - known racehorse Young Cheviot died at Ashburton a few days ago from intlaination of the bowels. A few years ago Young Cheviot was a most consistent performer; at Crackshot's Timaru Cup meeting lie won three races, he also ran second to Merganser in the J .C. Handicap at the N.Z. Cup meeting in 1892. The Auckland, Manawatu, and "Waipawa rnces take place 011 Saturday. My selections for the principal events are: —Auckland Cup—Day Star or Mars. Foal Stakes —Multiform 1, Sir Launcelot 2. Palmerston Cup Douglas, Light, Trent alto. Waipawa—Hurdles—Erena, Prairie Grass. Maiden—Glintfeldt, First Blood, J rick Tar. Handicap—Sylvanus. Electric Maid Marion or Coologue. "Welter Sylvanus. Flying Popgun. Stewards—"Waitangi. TRAINING NOTES. [By Telegkaph.] (P<r Press- Association.) Auckland, This day. The final gallops for the A.11.C. Summer Meeting took place at Ellerslie this morning. St. Paul covered two rounds at about three-quarter pace, Pirate assisting for the first part of the journey, and Ivnight of Athol the last part. The Cup favorite went nicely. Coronet did as he liked with Manola in a run of six furlongs. Pegasus and Mantle, after cantering round, were allowed to run another at racing pace, Mantle having the advantage at the finish. Tire, who had the best of the weights, appeared to be as good as Mars at the business end of a strong-run mile and a quarter. Castoria beat St. Crispin over five furlongs, while Edith Cureton had the best of .Janet in a gallop over the same distance. Antares galloped a mile and a half alone. Mahaki compassed two rounds at halfspeed, and walked to the scraping sheds lame. Solitaire had a slight advantage over Dauntless in a run of once round. Multiform and Gold Medalist finished together over a sharp run of six furlongs. Sir Launcelot had a little the best of Defiant in a gallop over the same distance. Nestor galloped the Cup distance, being assisted by Miss Nelson and Banquet, The gallop was a fair one. St Laura and Dummy got through light tasks. Gipsy Prince was too good for St Simon in a gallop of once round. Doris beat Lady Marion over six furlongs. Quickfire had the best of Haria in a gallop of once round. St Clements, Levanter, Kingswood, and Aughadowey did steady work. G. "Wright has taken 500 to 20 about Armilla for the Derby, and a wager of 40 to 20 that Day Star beats St Paul in the Cup. The town is crowded with visitors. In this evening's Star Hippona " selects St Paul to win the Cup.
