THAT FIRE BRIGADE BUSINESS.

[To THE EdITOK.] Sir, —I see A. A. George has a good deal to say about the Fire Brigade. Can he tell us if the cost of that little afiair the other evening when the Mayor and Captain Russell were riding about on the steam fire engine was paid for by the ratepayers. I have asked a number of members of the brigade and none of them seem to know anything about it.—l am, &c.. Tacks. [We have enqnired of Mr George, and he informs us that, although he is secretary of the brigade, he does not even know that such a thing as that referred to by " Tacks" ever took place.—Ed. Standard.]
