Yesterday morning between " arid 6 o'clock, a man named Can 1. . aged* 30 years, and who resided in C-n-h !e street, was found to have made a t< rriblo gash in his throat with a table knife. Medical attendance was e.iUrtVni, and the unfortunate man taken 'to the hospital, where he died at 3 p.m yesterday. Can tie was a prohibited person, and had been behaving in a very eccentric way lately. During the past few days he managed to secure some liquor. At times when he found it mipossibe to get liquor he resorted to painkiller and ehlorodyne, and it is supposed that he must have taken a quantity of the drugs prior to the rash act. On Thursday night Cantle entered a hotel and called for whisky. Suspicion arose in the mind of the publican as to deceased's identity, and asked him if his name was Cantle. Deceased answered in the negative and gave his name as John Edwards. On this statement the publican handed him the bottle Cantle quickly filled a tumbler and swallowed the contents. He told the publican that he would pay him next morning, and then hurried out of the hotel. About one o'clock on Saturday morning he was seen in Carlyle street and looked a total wreck. Deceased was summoned on Saturday to apper at the S.M. Court this merning on a charge of trying to obtain drink whilst a prohibition order was in existence against him.
