(I'er I'nss Ass,tuition.) By a lire in Grafton-road, Auckland yesterday, four houses wore burned. The tenants were Mrs Broadfoot, Mr Piggitt, and Mrs Keary. Only Piggitt was insured for in the New Zealand. The property belonged to the Bank of New South Wales, and was insured for £7OO in the National. The fire is supposed to have originated by a spark on the roof from a foul chimney. The Colonial Ammunition Company have donated £35 worth of smokeless powder to be used in one of the matches at the forthcoming colonial prize liring at Auckland. A number of other medals and trophies have been donated. A man named Charles Fisher, residing at (lisborne, a prohibited person, was poisoned yesterday morning through drinking carbolic acid in mistake for beer, which he thought a bottle he had found contained. David Broadfoot was found drowned in Skipper's Creek, near Qaeenstown, this morning.
