The British South Africa Chartered Company's additional capital of £1.000.000 has been subscribed. The taking of evidence by the Pacific Cable Commission will probably be finished by Christmas. A large number of experts have been examined, and it is intended to call Mr Reeves, the New Zealand Agent-General, and Mr Playford, Agent-< ieneral, for South Australia. The libel action against Lady Scott and two men named Coekerton and Kast has been adjourned for a week owing to the illness of Kast. Lord Kelvin warmly approves the establishment of permanent observatories on Mount Wellington in Tasmania and Mount Kosciusko in New South Wales, especially favoring the former. Owing to the bursting of a lamp in a tram the sheds at North Adelaide caught fire and were burnt to the ground. Twenty-three ears Were consumed in the flames, and the damage is estimated at over tT>OOO.
