A Presentation Refused.
[By Telegraph] (Per I'reus Association.) Invercargill, Nov. 28. The Hon. Mr Ward was to-day presented with a purse of 550 sovereigns by friends in Southland as a testimonial to his public services. Mr Ward declined to receive the money, stating that he was a young man full of energy, and would rather %ht his own way. He had not the least doubt but he would be able to surmont existing difficulties. The meeting appointed three trustees, directing them to hold the money in trust. Referring to the banking legislation, Mr Ward said that after the interval that had elapsed, on calm deliberation he was satisfied that the Government's action was in the best interests of the colony, and had saved thousands of people from disaster. The meeting, which was hekl at mid-dav, was large and enthusiastic.
