MR PHASER'S MEETING.
"To the Editor. Sri,-. We are very sorry for the *• Working Men " who signed that letter in your last night's issue. They must have signed it without reading it. Now. if they mean business and not talk, we are prepared to forfeit to the Napier Hospital if they will prove that Mr Eraser's figures at Kaikoia were correct ; and if they fail to do so they must forfeit .£•">. We are prepared to stand l>y Mr Seddon's Financial Statement. We don't want blow and bunkum. Let them deposit £~> in your hands, and we will cover it. or else let them cease from publishing fabrications. Your leader last week that you were an independent journal would not deceive a child. Your report of Thursday night's meeting sufficiently disposes of that claim. Why don't you hoist your colors and drop beating about the bush. Perhaps you are getting a bit dubious as to the credentials of the Hastings so-called Liberals and friends of the working men.—We aro. &c., (Signed by) Moke Wokkino Men. [The independence which we have previously maintained in our attitude will receive no serious cheek through tHe uncalled-for remarks of •• More Working Men." We would prefer our judges to be an unbiased public, rather than partisan correspondents.—Ed. StanI>Af!l>.
