Arcia.AM), Nov. 27A visit at the instance of the authorities of thf l>oor of Hope was paid to certain Chinese tenements in a lane off Waketicld-street by Mr Goldie, in- . pector under the City Council, and I>r King (Medical OHicer of Health for the city) accompanied by Sister Francis, of the Dour of Hop", and two young girls recently admitted into the Home afti r having been found living with Chinamen in the locality in .]>!• .-ie>n. and Sister Francis wished to obtain for them their clothes, kc., which had been left in the houses of the Chinese. in one of the hou.--.-i at the back of some empty shops two girls were found in the room:! of Chinamen, one being in bed. One of the girls managed to get away from the rescue party, but the other was detained. She said she had been brought to the house on the previous evening while under the inlluence of drink, and did not know where she was till morning. She said *he had ami .tiler living in Newton, but preferred going to the I >oor of I lope to reluming home. She was If) years and the other girl about the some age. The girl was accordingly taken down to the Door of Hope in a cab, and is now in that institution. It is intended to get the other girl into the home also if possible in order to save her from her present life. Several girls, it is said, freouent tumble - down and extremely filthy houses occupied by Chinamen in the vicinity of Wakefield-street.
