[By Telegraph.] (Per Press Asxociati'in.) Wellington', This day. Mrs W. Turnbull, wife of the founder of the well-known firm of W. G. Turnbull and Co., died yesterday, aged GO. She came to the colony in 1857. Dune din, This day. George Stephenson, a trimmer on the Talune, was fined 21s for smuggling lib of tobacco. Gatfield's fellmongery, Burnside, was burned down early this morning. The stock and plant were insured in the New Zealand office for £250. Wilson's Green Island Hotel was broken into this morning and the burglars removed the safe a distance of half a mile and when found it contained nothing. Ttmaru, This day. Archdeacon Harper last night was presented by the congregation w T ith a purse of sovereigns at a meeting to congratulate him on the completion of 20years as vicar of the parish of Timaru. Wlien he came to Timaru there was no church property, but now there is a church costing £9500 aud school and parsonage £2OOO, and only £IOOO owing on them.
