THE PRESS ASSOCIATION.

We arc pleased to Ik- able to announce that satisfactory .UTimgements have at length been completed with the Press Association and the proprietors of the Htami.vkd, whereby all the latest cable, intercolonial, and interprovincial news of the day will he published every afternoon in this journal. It has been through no fault of ours that this has not be; n the case from its inception ; but, dopite the efforts of the late chairman of directors (Mr Knowles, of Napier) we are now able to supply our readers with the same information as other evening papers. The original dispute between the Association and the Staxdaki) was the price demanded by the former for using its cable rights, namely, I - "> 00. As this sum was out of all reason, and evidently made for the purpose of preventing a newspaper being started in Hastings, we naturally demurred at paying .such an exorbitant price. The Association has now lowered the price to CoOO, and this sum in cash has been in their keeping for the past six months. This reduction is somewhat significant after the opinion of the late chairman of directors that the directors had no power to make any concession, and we leave our readers to draw their own conclusions. A. in the past, so in the future, the Stanoako, while maintaining an independent opinion on matters social and political, will endeavor to promote the prosperity of Hastings and district. We trust the enterprise and energy of the proprietary in paying such an heavy entrance fee will receive the appreciation of the public, and be rewarded by increased support.
