The body of the man Alfred C. Kowe, who was reported missing at Carterton about a week since, was found in tin■ Rnamahunga River yesterday. a little below Kokotau Bridge. At an in'[ti. -t in the afternoon a verdict was returned that deceased was drowned in attempting to cross the Kuatnahnnga River on the Ist inst. while intoxicated and while the river was in Hood. Tenders are being invited in Wellington for the tiM half of the million loan authorised last session ; the price is fixed at 3* per cent. In view of the plethora of money for investment at present, it is anticipated there will be no difficulty in obtaining the amount required. Tenders are limited to the Colony. The Christcburch Meat Company has just completed the largest deal in pork yet made in New Zealand, having purchased the whole of the ensuing season's output of bacon pigs of the New Zealand ami Australian Land Company's Edendale dairy factory.
