Mr J. H. J!aker, who is retiring front the position of A-sistant Surveyortieneral and Commis.-ioncr of ( rown Lands in Wellington in order to take up his residence in Lngliind, 011 Saturdav received a presentation of a handsome gold watch and a beautifully illuminated address, from the otlicials of the Wellington branch of the Lands and Survey Oepartment. The Wellington Garrison Band, which returned from South yesterday after winning the second pri/.e in the band contest, was heartly welcomed, 100 people being on the wharf, and one of the local bands played them home.
