The Rev. Mr Murray broke his leg at Carterton in a very simple way yesterday. In coming through his gateway he alighted to close the gate, and in running to overtake his conveyance his ankle twisted on uneven ground and the leg-bone snapped, The Wellington Kugby Union has suspended lf> players, among the number being several representatives and senior men, for taking part in a match with the Permanent Artillery and the Petone railway workshops, in which the players included two well-known men who had previously been suspended by the Union forbad behavior on the field. The suspension holds good until the 31st December next.
The improvement in Lady Glasgow's health still continues, and her medical attendants are now hopeful that she is fairly on the way towards recovery. A peculiar case is being heard in the Wellington S.M. Court, in which the trustees of the Wellington Hospital seek to . recover from Lopez S. Wilkes the sum of £"IN9. Defendant, who was recently committed for trial on a charge of embezzling moneys of the Wellington Hospital contributors, was formerly steward of the institution and was entrusted with the control of the safe, from which the sum of £lB9 was missed. The amount was for salaries, Sec., and the plaintiffs claim that the loss was due to neglect or misfeasance of defendant. The defence denies any negligence. At a meeting of the Canterbury Cricket Association last night it was resolved to accept the suggestion of the Otogo Association that the match Canterbury v. Otago should be played at Dunedin on November 7th, Slth, and 10th, and a return match in Christchurch during February. The Wellington Association wrote asking whether .January 22nd and 2:ird would be suitable for the CanterburyWellington match at Christchureh. It was resolved to reply that the dates would suit but to suggest that January 25 th should be included so as to allow three days' play. It was reported that the sum of IKB guineas had been subscribed to cover any possible loss on the Australian match.

Regarding the reported death of Murdock in an encounter with the Matabelos, his brother in Invorcirgill cabled for particulars and received a reply that it "was untrue. A prohibition meeting was hold last evening in the City Hall, Auckland, and was largely attended, at which the Rev. W. J. Williams .spoke on " Auckland Atrocities," a number of persons having died violent deaths during the last six weeks while under the influence of drink. The Rev. F. "\Y. Isitt dealt with the liquor traffic in the King Country. Jle denied the accuracy of the statements of the Diocesan Synod as to there being 1110: o drunkenness in the King Country than outside of it. The following resolution was carried unanimously on the motion of Mr (leorge Aldridge": t- " That this meeting of Aucklau-n citizens declares that no candidate for Parliament is worthy of support, whatever his political views may be, whose moral record is not clean and who will not trust the people to deal with the liquor traffic."
