M'Givgor and Parsons, two New Zealand shots, won .small prizes in the first match. An outbreak of anthrax is reported from across the Victorian border near Aibury. Good rain has fallen generally in New South Wales with the exception of the western district. Mr Cummings a Ministerialist, has been elected to till the vacancy in the Legislative Assembly occasioned by the sudden death of Mr P. Giikn, Commissioner of Crown Lands. Thi< day. At a meeting of the N.S.W. Cricket Association it was decided, by 1 » to 9, not to invite the Australian Eleven to play a match on their return to Sydnev. Pkkth, Oct. 20. A miner named Barnes walked into a store at Geraldton, asked to be shown a revolver, loaded it an ! blew out his brains.
