--- - The cycling track in connection with the Wellington Exhibition was opened on Saturday afternoon, and although the weather was very unfavorable there was a large attendance. The races were well contested. The chief event, live miles, was won by Hunt, of Marton, who it is said will shortly proceed to Australia to take part in events there. Everything points to the exhibition making a profit from the track as competitions are to be held regularly. A requisition is going round in the Waikato electorate to the lion. A. J. v'adtnan, and already bears HKKJ signatures of electors who strongly urge Mr ('adman to again contest the seat. The friends and supporters of Sir G. M. O'ltorke are bringing pressure to benr upon that gentlemen with a hope that he will not retire from political life, hut consent to stand for his old constituency at the forthcoming general election. To this end they will present Sis Maurice with a largely-signed requisition ;it a public meeting to be held next week at Onebunga when he will address his constituents and decide on bis future course of action. An old Maori named Ohra is missing at Henderson (Auckland district). His whare was found undisturbed and it i.s thought he may have wandered away and died. lie was very feeble and in receipt of charitable aid. The balance-sheet of the Kaiapoi Woollen Company shows a profit- for the year of .£'11,02:5. X dividend of 7 per cent is recommended, £2.100 to be carried to the reserve fund, which then stands at l'E"»,000, and the balance of I'l-ViM carried forward to a new account. At the Dunedin Police Court on Saturday, Herbert J. Moss, late manager of the Manchester Insurance Company, who had been arrested in Melbourne, was charged with obtaining £BO by false pretences. The case was remanded till Friday to obtain the attendance of a witness from Christchurch.
