THE HAWKE'S BAY SEAT.
To Tiik Khitou.] Sin, —Your Wellington correspondent generally considers facts ln-fore fancies, but surely he is milking a big mistake when he credits Captain Russell with the opinion that he expects a majority of Oppositionists at the coming election. His majority of six and the Independents'jvote 011 questions of policy is very amusing. \\ hy, one of the most doubtful seats in the colony is Hawke's liay, and in the opinion of those best able to judge, if a good Liberal announces himself early the leader of the Opposition will have a good opportunity of having a much-needed rest when the next Parliament meets as Government will gain the Hawke's Hay seat. I should like to say in conclusion, however, that the Liberals are making a mistake in keeping their dark horse under cover; he should he in training at once.—l am, ike., Elector. Hastings, October 10, 1896.
