The Government Life Insurance Department contemplates taking legal proceedings in consequence of the publication by certain newspapers of advertisements containing extracts from the Sydney Morning Herald alleged to be libellous. Fielding, This day. Yesterday at Waituna John Mason, when bushfelling, was crushed by a tree. He received a broken thigh and internal injuries and his recovery is doubtful. His mates carried him three miles out of the bush. Chiustcuurcu, This day. Mrs Mary Barnett, 70 years of age, who lived by herself was found dead oil her scullery floor this morning. Dunedin, This day. Thomas Skeen, a prohibited person, was fined £2 and costs for being found in a hotel.
