Although the sky was overcast and the weather looked anything but promising, the attendance at the spring meeting of the above club to-day was large, including a great many ladies. The course was heavy, but the sport good. The following are the results : Maiden Trot (saddle), of 20 soys ; second horse to receive 3 sovs from the stakes. For horses that liave never won ail advertised race, either in saddle or harness, at time of starting. Two miles. Mr J. McFlierson's Euchre, osee behind (Day) ... ... ... ... 1 Mr \Y. Orange's Whisper, limit (owner) 2 Mr J. Gallagher's Old Jack, limit (owner) 3 Miss Cant, "Wallace, and Okawa also started. When the lield were let go, Whisper at once went to the front, which position she maintained till the last round, when the winner came through, and won rather easily after making several breaks. Qn the word being given, Silver Grey went to the front in what appeared to be a gallop, and on passing the post the first time was warned by the judges. He came in first, but a protest by the owner of the second horse was entered, and after consideration by the stewards, it was decided to award the stakes to Horangapai. Totalisator, £'2o4. Div., £4 9s. Time, 6min. Hawke's Bay Trottiko Clubs Handicap (saddle), of 50 sovs ; second horse to receive 7 sovs from the stake. Two miles. Mr S. Heigliwey's Glengarry, Bsecs behind (Day) 1 Mr J. R. Corrigan's Kentucky W r ilks, .OOsecs behind (Owner) ... ... 2 Mr G. Murfitt's Gold Dust, 24secs behind (Owner) 8 Also started Doon, Flossie, Torori, Hollywood, Argyle, and Maud V. This was the most interesting race of the day as indicated by the numbers on the machine. Kentucky Wilks made a bad start, and it was some time before he got going properly, when he overhauled all the horses but Glengarry, who won by 100 yds. j The winner made no mistakes on the journey, and his rider had no difficulty in keeping his position after the first mile. Koromiko, Floss, Ethel, Trickster, Agnes, Come Again, and Elic also started. The double winner went to the front in the first lap, and was never troubled. A good race for second place.
