Weir was interred in the Napier cemetery yesterday afternoon, the funeral being attended by a large number of friends. Members of the Loyal Napier Ledge of which the deceased was a member were also present in good numbers. The rowing season was opened on Saturday, but the weather was rather too cold for the function to be thoroughly enjoyed by a large number present. Mr Kettle declared the season open in an appropriate speech, after which a procession of boats went down to the gasworks and back, and the fours of the Napier and T'nion clubs gave exhibition sports for the enti rtainment of the visitors, to whom afternoon tea was lavishly dispensed. In the evening the Napier Rowing Club held a social in the Criterion, when last year's trophies were presented to their respective winners and a most enjoyable evening was spent. The opening of the shooting season took place on the Tutaekuri range on Saturday. Teams were picked by Mr K. W. Cato of the Riilo Club and Sergt. Pi re of the Napier Rilles. The latter's team won by lit points. The weather was against good shooting.
