Hastings S.M. Court.

CIVIL SITTINGS. (Before S. Turnbull, Esq.) The usual civil sittings of the Magistrate's Court was held this morning when the following cases were disposed of: — Stubbs, Paterson and Co. v. Iraia Benhena, claim I*l lis od. Judgment for amount claimed with costs Bs. T. Spencer v. C. W. Keardon, claim £4 4s. Judgment for amount claimed with costs, lis. C. R. Gundrie (Ebbett) v. Ihaka Te Purapuia, claim £1 8s 3d. -Judgment for amount claimed with costs, £1 lis. B. L. Knight (Ebbett) v. Ekaragi Hapuku, claim £"3O _LS.s 9d. -Judgment for amount clafmed with costs, £3. J. Hie key (Ebbett) v. G. Fowler (Sheath), claim i' 9. Order made for payment forthwith, to be suspended during payment of 2s 6d weekly ; costs 245. x > C. R. Gundrie (Ebbett) v. Wi Winiku (S. H. Williams), a claim for £2O 4s 9d for goods supplied. A point was raised that as Wi Wiuiku was a legally married woman her husband was liable for the debt; but under cross-examination by Mr Ebbett, the •witness, Wi Winiku, admitted that her marriage was celebrated according to the Mormon rites. Certain items of the account being challenged, judgment was given for £'l7 16s 2d and £4 Is 6d costs.
